Sip On This Instead of Water

Does anyone else get tired of drinking water? It sounds strange since water has no flavor, but sometimes I get tired of it. Don’t get me wrong, I drink a ton of water. A good rule of thumb is to drink half your body weight in ounces in water a day. Water keeps our bodies working how they should. So I’m not saying you shouldn’t drink water but if you’re like me, sometimes you’re just tired of it.

Not only that, but sometimes if I can have something fun to drink, it helps me tap down my sugar demon. Water on the other hand, does not take away my desire for a chocolate chip cookie. Hot chocolate does. The problem is, non-water drinks are often packed with sugar, calories and, let’s face it, a bunch of crap that should never enter your body. So below are nine fun non-water drinks you can enjoy at any point in your day without having to feel guilt or regret. But be sure to still get in your water.

1. La Croix

This is only the millionth time I’ve mentioned La Croix on this blog, but I love this stuff. It’s protected me from making several serious mistakes in my life, like eating a donut at 2:00 in the afternoon. Or stress eating a bunch of mini candy bars at 9:30 p.m.

2. Herbal Tea

I love herbal tea because it comes in so many flavors, so you can have whatever you’re in the mood for. My favorites are cherry, blueberry and apple cinnamon. Some people add honey but I like them plain. Let me rephrase that. I’m sure I’d like them more with honey, but I still enjoy them plain so that’s how I drink them.

3. Fruit-Infused Water

I’ve talked about drinking lemon water before, but there are a lot of fun ways to flavor your water with fruit. My favorites are lemon, lime, strawberry and lime, basil and blackberry (yep. It’s amazing), and cucumber. I was a bit nervous to try cucumber water as that sounds like something gross they’d serve in an expensive spa and everyone would have to pretend they like it to be popular. But after trying it, it’s actually really good!!

4. Guilt Free Hot Chocolate (click here for recipe)

I don’t drink coffee, so in the cold months (or warm months… or hot months…) I turn to hot chocolate. I also turn to chocolate if I’m stressed, angry, bored. This sounds like a bad confession. The point is, this is a great way to get chocolate without the guilt.

5. Crio Bru (click here for link)

This is similar to the guilt-free hot chocolate but not quite as creamy and sweet. It’s just brewed cocoa beans so again, you get your chocolate fix without downing a snickers.

6. Apple Cider Vinegar

Before you start chugging a jar of vinegar, let me give a few more details. Apple cider vinegar is great for detoxification, energy, appetite control, digestion and several more things.  The first time I tried it, I decided to forgoe dilluting and sweetening and poured myself a small cup of strait vinegar. I now understand the phrase, “that will put hair on your chest.” I thought I might die. The next time I tried it, I added 1 Tbsp into 8 ounces of water, along with a little stevia. Perfect! It was refreshing, energizing and didn’t make me feel like I had swallowed a flaming stick of dynamite. I get lazy though and so I buy the Braggs pre-mixed apple cider vinegar drinks. They are actually really good. My favorite is the Limeade. I especially drink this if I had a few too many food cheats the day before.

7. Sparkling Water with Stevia

You can buy so many different flavors of stevia these days. And a tiny bottle lasts forever. So if I want a rootbeer (click here for link), I just put a few drops of rootbeer stevia into a cup of carbonated water. It’s also fun to mix flavors. My favorites (aside from rootbeer) are english toffee, orange, chocolate raspberry and hazelnut.

8. Suja Probiotic Water (click here for link)

This is kind of a once a day at most kind of thing, but these drinks are refreshing and help me resist treats. A lot of them have added ginger, so they have a little spice going on as well. I buy them at Target but you can also find them at whole foods.

9. Hot Almond milk with cinnamon

Like hot chocolate, this is great for a cold night. Be sure to buy the almond milk without added sugar. I prefer the one with a little vanilla added to it. You could also add some of your stevia drops to this to up the flavor.
